Our founders, John and Shauna, educators by trade, began their search for their Unicorn after being introduced, unknowingly, to a high-quality bourbon that matched their flavor profiles perfectly.  Prior to this, they had only experienced smokey, high proof bourbon that burned as it went down and smoked when it came up.  This experience caused them to reexamine what bourbon meant to them and send them on a quest to find their Unicorn – not the one the magazine said to buy sight unseen but the one that matched their preferences and designs.

They discovered that in the current market there were no opportunities to educate themselves or refine their palates.  This inspired John and Shauna to educate themselves through experiences and education.  They toured distilleries, experiences, and became certified Executive Bourbon Stewards (the Bourbon Industry Sommelier equivalent) to find that Unicorn. They discovered that it takes a trip through the senses to really understand what their Unicorn was and wanted to help other people do the same.

Through their journey, John and Shauna became passionate about helping ordinary people with ordinary budgets discover what their Bourbon Unicorn is and founded Drunken Unicorn Productions with that goal in mind.  Their philosophy is that no one needs to spend hundreds of dollars on a Bourbon others say is amazing – you need to find your Unicorn in your flavor profile – we want to help you discover it.
